5 – 6 Years
Grown so fast...
At these ages, children are also increasingly able to understand and manage their emotions.
In the early elementary years, children are using more complex vocabulary and grammar. They make sense of their own feelings more and more, and learn better ways to describe experiences and express thoughts and feelings. This increasing ability to manage their thoughts and feelings also mean that they have a greater ability to follow instructions independently in a manner that would not be true of preschool or younger children. Parents can rely on their child’s growing cognitive abilities to use instructional approaches that depend on the child’s own independent discoveries, his/her use of alternative strategies for inquiry, and their greater persistence in problem solving.
They are growing in their ability to make mental representations, although they still have difficulty grasping abstract concepts without the aid of real-life references and materials. The following articles will give detailed insights into various aspects of development and the effective strategies to be used to support the optimal growth and learning.
